Is Now the Right Time to Make a Move?

In a world still navigating economic uncertainty, one area remains surprisingly resilient - the job market. Despite global challenges, skilled professionals (particularly those with multilingual abilities) are seeing consistent demand across sectors.

By mid‑2025, the UK job market has cooled slightly compared to its post‑pandemic peak. According to the Office for National Statistics, vacancies dropped to 761,000 in April 2025, marking a 5.3% quarterly decline. Yet the overall picture is more nuanced. While total listings are down from their highest levels, there’s still a strong appetite for talent especially among organisations seeking language skills, international experience, and flexibility.

At the same time, average salaries continue to climb, with advertised pay reaching £42,400 in June 2025 a year-on-year increase of over 9%. Employers are having to compete harder for quality candidates, and over half of UK organisations report struggling to fill roles due to skills mismatches or salary expectations.

The shift is clear: candidates now have more influence over how, where, and with whom they work. Hybrid and remote models have become standard for many, making location far less of a barrier. Jobseekers are prioritising flexibility, purpose, and cultural fit—placing as much emphasis on what the employer offers as on what they bring to the table.

In particular, professionals with additional languages and cross-border experience are well-positioned. Employers increasingly value these skills in an interconnected market, whether for client communication, compliance, or expanding into new regions.

So, is now the right time to change roles?

For many, yes. If a current employer isn’t offering progression, flexibility or a sense of direction, this may be the ideal moment to look elsewhere. Despite a more cautious economic backdrop, strong opportunities remain available—particularly for those willing to explore international or multilingual environments.

Ready to take the next step?

Professionals with language skills are in high demand across Europe and the UK. Whether looking for more flexibility, a broader role, or a company with a global mindset, now could be the right time to move.
